BANGKOK: Thailand, the world's No. 2 sugar exporter, opened a tender on Tuesday to buy back sugar from the world market and may have to import the sweetener for the first time in its history because of tight domestic supplies. The tender for up to 100,000 tonnes of white sugar, which began at around 0300 GMT, has helped push up world sugar prices and is raising questions over whether a scramble for the sweetener in Thai supermarkets will worsen an Asian shortfall.
